BRING HISTORY TO LIFE WITH A MUSEUM OR IN SCHOOL VISITS
The Bacup Natural History Society museum serves as a great local history
resource for use in both primary and secondary schools, as well as other
children’s groups. Museum and in-school visits can be tailored to cover a
specific topic or just a general Yesterday’s Bacup visit.
The museum collections cover many topics that will support your teaching from
the three archaeological periods: Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age to life in
Victorian Bacup, the mills and mines and to Bacup at War.
School visits are charged at £20.00 per hour.
In school visits are charged at £45.00 per hour with a maximum 2 hour visit.
For museum visits we are happy to tailor our museum worksheets to any topic
you require.
All our volunteers that carry out work with the children hold current
enhanced dbs certificates.
To book a visit please email us.
We also have topical information packs available
They are £4.50 per pack and contain information which you can print off along with topical photographs, leaflets and posters

WALL OF HISTORY
Adjacent to the museum in Newgate Gardens, is the Bacup Wall of History. The wall of history is made up of a collection of various stone
artefacts that were collected by members over a period of about 100 years from buildings in and around Bacup and Stacksteads that were
being demolished. The garden is also home to the Bacup Stocks, and a large crushing wheel. An illustrated guide of the stones is available
here to DOWNLOAD.

Home Learning Group Visit February 2022
A friend told us about the Bacup Natural History
Museum after attending an open day, so we
arranged a visit for our home educators group - and
what a treasure trove it is! The staff were extremely
helpful and friendly, not to mention their incredible
knowledge and passion for the history of the local
area.
There are so many interesting elements to the
museum that bring so many learning topics to life.
The fact that sessions can be tailored to
topics/interests/age of children is fantastic, and staff
were great at both preparing for the session in
advance by conversing with myself, and on the day
by engaging with the children.
There was no question the staff couldn’t answer!
Their passion for the history of the area and the
museum is a real gift to visitors.

We visited the Bacup Natural History Museum with a
Home Education Group for a fossil talk with expert
Arthur. It was a privilege to have him share his fasinating
knowledge. The children were very intrigued and
highlights included a fossilised turtle poop, which was
135 million years old!
This was our first visit to the Museum and what a treat it
was. The staff were very engaging and gave us a tour
around the rest of the building, told us tales of it's history
and interesting facts on other items on exhibition.
Amazing place to spend a couple of hours soaking in the
areas history.

We would all like to say a HUGE thank you! The children
absolutely loved spending their morning at the museum.
There was a vast variety of artefacts and information which
the children enjoyed exploring. They remembered lots of
amazing facts when they returned back to school. What an
incredible facility to have on our doorstep! We will
definitely be visiting again.
